Juvederm vs. Restylane vs. Radiesse- How Are They Different?

Juvederm Ultra, and Restylane are composed of hyaluronic acid molecules (a naturally occurring substance in the body) that are cross-linked to increase their longevity.  They are safe and FDA approved for placement into the nasolabial folds (parenthesis).  They can also be used Off-label to fill the under-eye hollow areas (tear troughs), cheeks, lips, and facial lines to give a fuller look and to smooth away unwanted wrinkles.  Juvederm Ultra Plus and Perlane are a bit thicker in their consistency, and are used in deeper areas that require more volume and firmness such as in the cheeks.  They also last a little longer.  An advantage of hyaluronic acid based products is that they are almost instantly reversible with a reversing agent.  Radiesse on the other hand, is a  calcium hydroxyapatite product that has the advantage of stimulating the body's natural collagen formation in the injected areas, enhancing its lasting effect.  It is thick in consistency, and white in color. Hence it is best used in deeper areas and not as appropriate for very superficial fine lines.  Also, it does not have a reversing agent.
